Beijing Capital International Airport Ranks Second in the World in Passenger Flow and the Shanghai Pudong Airport Ranks Third in the World in Cargo Transportation

The 2013 National Aviation Development Statistical Bulletin issued by the CAAC revealed that over the past four years, BCIA ranked No. 2 in the world in air passenger flow. Over the past six years, Shanghai Pudong International Airport ranked No. 3 in the world in air cargo transportation.

By the end of last year, in China there were a total of 2,145 transport aircraft in service, 204 more than last year; there were 193 airports, 10 more than last year; the annual number of take-offs and landings surpassed 7.3 million flights, showing an increase of 10.8% over last year; there were 61 airports with an annual passenger flow over 1 million, among them, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou accounted for 29% of traffic; there were 50 airports with an annual cargo volume of 10 thousand tons or more among which the Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou airports accounted for 51.8%. BCIA placed No.2 in the world with an annual passenger flow of 84 million during the past four years, while Shanghai Pudong International Airport placed No.3 in the world with an annual cargo volume of 2.929 million tons over the past six years.

It is reported that China flew a total of 353.97 million passengers in the 2013, an increase of 10.8% over the previous year. 327.42 million of these passengers were on domestic flights, an increase of 10.6% over last year; routes to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan took 9.04 million passengers, experiencing an increase of 8.4% over the previous year; international routes took the remaining 26.55 million passengers, experiencing an increase of 13.7% over the previous year.
