The conference theme, "Sustainable practices for safety and security management systems," served as a unique forum for the Directors General of Civil Aviation in Asia-Pacific Regions to discuss significant issues on aviation safety and security, sustainability and efficiency of civil aviation and other topics of common interests relevant to the region’s aviation industry. The conference, presided over by the Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is a senior-level forum on civil aviation held regularly in the Asia Pacific region with the purpose of providing a platform for chiefs of civil aviation authorities of Asia Pacific countries wherein they can discuss important issues and other matters relating to civil aviation. The conference meetings provide an arena where top senior officials of different countries can share experiences and discuss relevant situations, review dynamic conditions, and enhance their contacts. It serves as a venue where they can confirm the list of their action items and at the same time promote harmony, mutual cooperation and development of all regional countries’ civil aviation. The Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Region are held in turn all over the Asia Pacific region by host countries. Since its inception in 1960, it has been held 43 times. In 1991, the 27th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Region was held in China. Now, 16 years later, the conference has returned.
