General Plan of the Zhuhai Airport Gains Approval Annual Thuoughput Will Reach 13 Million by 2025

The General Plan of the Zhuhai Airport has gained approval from the CAAC and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

Zhuhai Airport is designed to be a domestic trunkline airport. According to the General Plan, to meet its short-term demands the airport will be constructed to accommodate 13 million passengers, 160 thousand tons of cargo and mail and 120 thousand flights annually by the year 2025; in order to meet the goals of the long-term plan by the year 2045, the airport will be constructed to accommodate 28 million passengers, 600 thousand tons of cargo and mail and 240 thousand flights annually. The short-term plan will cover an area of 710.7 hectares and the long-term plan will cover 1,245 hectares.,

Currently, Zhuhai Airport is a category 4E airport with a single 4,000 meter long and 45 meter wide runway. According to its long-term plan, there will be a second runway 365 meters to the east of the current one stretching 2,600 meters long and 45 meters wide. According to the short-term plan, there will be 45 parking bays, among which are 23 adjacent stands, 20 remote stands, and 2 cargo bays. According to the long-term plan, in order to meet the demands of an hourly 8,700 passenger flow, the airport will construct a second terminal to the north of Terminal 1. The total area of Terminal 2 will be 327 thousand hectares, with long-term plans to build 82 parking bays, among which are 46 adjacent stands, 27 remote stands and 9 cargo bays.
