Jilin Tonghua Sanyuanpu Airport was put in to commission on June 18, making it the fifth civilian airport in Jilin Province.
Sanyuanpu Airport is located 38.5 kilometers to the northwest of Tonghua City with an airport reference code of 4C. Its runway stretches 2,300 meters long and its terminal covers an area of 3,034 square meters. The airport has been designed to accommodate 194 thousand passengers annually and can operate the B737-800, A320-231, and other types of aircraft.
Yan Ping, the Director General of the Tonghua Tourism Bureau highlighted the city’s plans to make Sanyuanpu Airport an international port airport.
In addition, relying on local tourism resources, especially sightseeing tours of the China-North Korea border, Tonghua hopes to further expand their overseas tourism market. Already, Ji'an City (Part of Tonghua City) has opened a train line to North Korea, on which visitors can take the train to Pyongyang, P'anmunjǒm, Kaesǒng, Myohyangsan and other tourist destinations.
