Bazhong Airport Gains Approval, Becoming the 17th Domestic Regional Airport of Sichuan Province

The State Council and Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China have approved the construction of Sichuan Bazhong Airport. The Bazhong Airport is designed to be a domestic regional airport and is located in Enyang District, 13 km direct and 31 km by road from Bazhong City. The airport reference code was designated 4C, and a 2,600 meter runway will be built. It is reported that the project should start around Chinese New Year 2015 and be finished by 2020. The annual passenger flow will reach 300 thousand.

There are 14 airports in Sichuan Province, among which is the major hub Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, the first airport in China’s Mid-Western region that reached a passenger flow of 30 million annually. The airport’s passenger flow and cargo volume are both ranked among the top fifty airports in the world. By the year 2020, Sichuan will have 17 regional airports.
